Shafer at her home on what is known as the M. H. Carbaugh farm, south of the Knox schoolhouse, in Sebewa township, upon which the family settled last January. Although her health had been poor for three years, members of the family were totally unprepared for her death and the shock to them was nothing short of unbearable. The remains were placed aboard the evening train Friday for transportation to S…(illegible), Ill., where the family resided prior to coming to this vicinity. The sorrowing husband and two small children accompanied the body to its destination, where interment took place. The family, although residents of the vicinity only a short time, have formed many steadfast friends who deeply sympathize with them in their bereavement. Mrs. Shafer’s maiden name was Marie Ann Fieldcamp. She was 32 years of age. She came to Portland on the Saturday preceding her death and at intervals since had been in spirits that seemed to indicate her early recovery.
