Shannon, whose death occurred on Friday, Sept. 4, was born at Shannon Corners, Yates county, March 28, 1834, being 62 years, 5 months and 6 days old, at the time of his death. Mr. Shannon remained on the farm where he was born, until he came west in the spring of 1866, settling in Ionia, where he engaged in the livery business in partnership with Geo. Smith. He was married to Miss Sarah A. Littell, at Tyrone, N.Y., May 25, 1859. To this union was born Lida E., now the wife of Emory W. More, of this city. Mrs. Shannon departed this life October 22nd, 1883. Mr. Shannon was again married on Oct. 26, 1884, to Miss Sarah E. Elvert, of this city. But the martial tie was again broken when Death claimed her as his own, May 6, 1889. A few years later failing health induced him to take a trip through the North-west and down the Pacific coast, but this did not bring the results that were anticipated and soon after returning he was stricken with paralysis, and from that time on he continued to fail, until that all devouring scythe of time which cuts the brittle thread of life and casts us into eternity, was in the hands of that grim destroyer, death. He bore with patience and fortitude the pangs of suffering that were laid so firmly upon his strong frame, never complaining, but continued to show that cheerful disposition which characterized his whole life. He was not a member of any church, but had belief of the presence of a Supreme Being.
