Loretta Margaret Costello Shannon, 80, formerly of Belding, died Sunday morning,
June 1, 1997, in Sault Ste. Marie.  She was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Belding, the
daughter of James and Mary Costello, of Parnell.

She is survived by her children, Callie and Tony Zakrajsek of Mission Viejo,
Calif., Katherine and Hugh White of Grand Rapids, Martin and Wanda Shannon of
Whitehall, Mary Helen and Tom Haarman of Grand Rapids, Patrick and Mary Anne
Shannon of Sault Ste. Marie; one sister, Eileen Newton; one brother, Frank
Costello; 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  She was preceded in
death by her husband, Martin, in 1992.

The Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle
Church, Grand Rapids.  Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Belding.  The
scripture service will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.  The family will receive
friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral
Service, Grand Rapids.  Memorials may be made to the Diocese of Grand Rapids
Rainbow Program or to St. Paul the Apostle First Friday Friends.
