S. Shattuck, 84, One of Few Remaining G. A. R. Members, Dies in Hastings. Another veteran answered the last call Thanksgiving morning when E. S. Shattuck passed quietly away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Rushford Surine, in Hastings. Mr. Shattuck had been very active in spite of his 84 years, and had been a familiar figure about the streets of Ionia. He was a member of the Eighth Michigan Infantry and enlisted in 1863, remaining in service until the close of the war. He was a member of the local G. A. R. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Surine, of Hastings; Mrs. Andrew Randall, of Ionia; three sons [The names are unreadable.] a brother, [The name is unreadable.] of Lansing, besides 27 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 from the Methodist church. Rev. W. R. Kendrick will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park.
