Bert Shattuck, 225 Cleveland street, was killed this morning by a falling crane in the machine room at the car shops, death being attributed to cerebral hemorrhage. It is supposed that he looked up as the crane fell, for it struck directly across the end of his nose and his upper lip. The nose was broken, but the cut was very slight. He lived about fifteen minutes, straightening up somewhat before he fell over on the floor. Dr. F.M. Marsh was hurriedly called, but the man was almost dead when he arrived and there was nothing to be done. The accident occurred about fifteen minutes after work had commenced for the day – at 6:45, standard time. Death came at 7:00 o’clock. Mr. Shattuck leaves a widow and six children, the youngest being merely an infant. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Shattuck, are also living, and there are other close relatives. He was 41 years old. A jury was hastily summoned and sworn by Coroner Boynton, the following men being chosen to act: Roman Steinberg, N.G. Avery, Frank Macomber, Fred Bielow, Theodore Mathews and Albert Kruger. --------------- The funeral for Bert Shattuck will be held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the home on Cleveland street. Rev. C.E. Hoag will officiate. Burial in Highland Park.
