It almost seems as if it is more than we can comprehend, but I'm writing this letter for those of you who are interested in our tribute to a boy who is gone but never forgotten. On July 10th, 1955, John Felix Shattuck, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Shattuck of 629 Bayard St.. Johnny, was a good boy, like most he had that (boy will be boy) air about him but basically he was a good boy. He grew to be a Huckleberry Finn type boy. He loved nature, the fresh smell of the outdoors, the cool breeze blowing through the trees on the river bank. He loved to hunt, but I guess above all things a boy his age treasures, he loved his dog. What great time they had together. Johnny, kind of lost interest in school, but I guess only kids his age understand the reason for that. It's that time of life when they're discovering a whole new world, with places to go and things to do, and at that particular time they seem so much more important than an education. Thinking back and being honest I think we've all been down that road ourselves. For those of us who knew and loved him he was truly made in heaven. He liked everybody and everything, bringing only good to his family and friends, and friends he had plenty of. One thing we will always have, and those are wonderful memories. Memories of how he loved to fish and hunt and most of all how he loved life itself. Often times parents and families get so involved in the fast pace of the world today, we don't stop and take count of our blessings. We take our children for granted. The noise of the door slamming and the mess they leave on the table after a quick lunch so they can hurry back to their world of fun and games, but for those of you who will see your son grow past 14, stop and thank God, they are well and with you. Listen to their problems, stay young with them and above all have patience and understanding and thank God everyday they're with you. To all of our wonderful friends who came in time of darkness our sincere thank you can only tell in part how grateful we are. To Mr and Mrs Don Leddick, words cannot express our feeling for you. You've opened your home as well as your hearts to us in these sad days. God, truly chose you himself for your job. To all of Johnny's friends, keep his memory close to your hearts and always remember he loved you as only true friends can, and to Johnny, take the thought into heaven with you that we all love you, and will remember you always in our hearts, in death as we did in life.
