Shaw passed away at his home on Beulah street, Friday. He was born March 5, 1864, at the farm home on M-91 north-west of this city, which is now 8751 Storey road. This farm, which originally comprised a section of land was taken up from the government in 1840 by Mr. Shaws’ grandparents, John and Jane Shaw and it was his home until about eight years ago. At that time Mr. Shaw received severe burns on his feet while burning brush at his home and had since been a semi-invalid. He was the son of Asher C. and Elizabeth Shaw. He was cared for by his wife, the former Marie McDonald, to whom he was married in 1915. After he was burned the farm was sold to Edwin Petersen and Mr. and Mrs. Shaw purchased the home on Beulah St. Survivors besides his wife, are one son, Asher B. Shaw, of San Louis Obispo, Calif., who arrived in Grand Rapids by plane Saturday to be here for his father’s funeral; one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Mattison, of Smyrna, and one grandchild, Richard B. Shaw. Funeral services were held on Sunday at 2:30 at the Fitzjohn Funeral Home with Rev. H.B. Johnson officiating. Burial was in Otisco cemetery. Pallbearers were Layton Dietrick, Peter Shindorf, Wallace Updike, Harold Updike, Roy Taylor and Michael Connolly.
