John Shaw, aged about 84 years. His funeral was attended at the homestead on Wednesday by a large concourse of citizens; sermon by E. Mudge. Deacon Shaw was one of the pioneers of Otisco, having settled here in 1838. For the greater part of the time since that date he has been a continuous resident. He was a devoted Christian. For many years after his first settlement here he was a member and deacon of the Baptist church, but some years ago he withdrew and connected himself with the Christian church, of which he remained a most worthy member until his death. During the last years of his life he had been out but little. He became partially blind and somewhat deaf, which made him more secluded. He died apparently without disease, nature having worn herself out, and the old body was laid aside to take on that celestial body in store for the pure in heart. He leaves two sons and one daughter to mourn his loss.
