April 14, 1915 The funeral of Asher C. Shaw who died last Wednesday night was very largely attended by his old neighbors and friends who came to pay their last respects to the deceased. Mrs. Belle Fuller of Grand Rapids conducted the service and gave an excellent discourse from the text. “If a man die shall he live again?” Mrs. Sarah Clemons Chase and Mrs. A.J. Rummler sang one of the selections being, “Sometime We’ll Understand”, which was very effective in connection with the thoughts brought out by the speaker and her rendition of the poem, “There is no Death.” There were many beautiful flowers on the casket. Had Mr. Shaw lived until the 22nd of May he would have been 73 years old. He was born in York, Washtenaw County in 1842 and came with his father, Deacon John Shaw to the farm north of this city, where he has lived most of his life and which he has owned since his father’s death. Mr. Shaw was married to Miss Elizabeth Wright in Greenville in 1863, and who with one son Al Shaw, survives him. Ten years ago they moved off the farm to their home in this city, leaving the son on the place and dividing their time between the farm and city life. Among the near friends and relatives present were, Perry Bradford and wife, H. House and wife and son Paul, Mrs. Fred R. Johnson and son, Phillip, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Shaw, Mrs. Jennie Legg and Mrs. Eliza Young of Greenville. The remains of this much loved and respected pioneer were laid to rest in the Otisco cemetery in the lot beside his father and mother, who proceeded him to the spirit world many years ago.
