Othela M. Shawley, 73, of Belding, died Friday, March 1, 1996, at her residence.
 She was born Nov. 17, 1922 in Belding, the daughter of William and Pearl Clark
Coleman.  She owned and operated Star Real Estate for 30 years and was manager
of Jacklyn Apartments for 14 years, retiring in 1989.  She was a member of the
Royal Neighbors, the Eastern Star and the VFW and American Legion auxiliaries. 
She married Wilford R. Shawley Dec. 28, 1941, in Belding.

She is survived by her children: Deborah McPeek (Dr. Ahmed Samy) Rashwan, of
Belding, and Susan Meagher, of Belding; two sisters: Jeannette (Charles) Coleman
Strouse, of Clare and Judy Coleman, of Grand Rapids; four brothers and three
sisters-in-law: Nathan (June) Coleman, of Florida, Kenneth Coleman, of Alaska;
Richard (Joyce) Coleman, of Okemos; and James (Lucy) Coleman, of Stanton.  She
was preceded in death by her husband Wilford Shawley, on Dec. 4, 1991 and three
sisters: Lorraine Chickering, Anna Pierson and Alice Albane.

Cremation has been held.  Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at the
Belding Bible Church with Rev. Kenneth Martin officiation.  Interment will be in
River Ridge Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Ionia County
Commission on Aging or the Alvah N. Belding Library.  Arrangements by Johnson
Funeral Home.
