Mr. and Mrs. Shellenbarger, their two children, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lepley, their neighbors, who had been to Hastings with the former's team and wagon, were returning to their home four miles north of Hastings. When within two miles of their home they were struck by a truck on M-43, driven by Eldon Farrell of Woodland, but who conducts a feed store at Hastings. All were returning to their homes when the accident occurred. It is stated that there was no light on the wagon and that coming over a hill the wagon was not seen until too late to avoid the collision. Mr. Shellenbarger was cut and bruised as were the children but Mr. and Mrs. Lepley were not seriously injured. Mr. Shellenbarger was formerly Miss Della Sawdy, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sawdy of Woodland, and had always lived in that locality. The funeral was held at the Woodland U. B. church, the pastor Rev. Verne Beardsley officiating. Burial was at Lakeside cemetery.
