Among the valued remembrances Mr and Mrs David Shellenbarger have of their son Roy is a diary he had kept from the time he enlisted, October 1, 1940, until a few days before his death in January 1945. Among various items and dates he mentioned the fall of Corrigedor - his being taken prisoner; the receipt of Red Cross boxes, bombings close by; letters from home; his illness of beri beri; meals on Christmas day; blood plasma transfusions he received and of finally being sent to the prison hospital. Also with the diary is a poem in which he told of his faith in God and the hope for a quick release.
