She had been spending the winter with her sister, Mrs. Mable Stone, at Calimesa, California. Born October 10, 1881, at Portland, she was the daughter of Fred and Sarah Dilley VanHouten and married Edwin Shellhorn on July 28, 1908. They had spent their entire life in Lake Odessa. Mr. Shellhorn, a business man in the clothing store for many years and who had also served as local postmaster, died June 28, 1948. Mrs. Shellhorn was a member of the Lake Odessa Order of Eastern Star, chapter no. 315. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Margaret) Beard of Lansing; one son, Van of Kalkaska; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Stone and Mrs. Nellie Ellis of Lansing. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 20, at the Pickens funeral chapel with burial in Lakeside cemetery. Rev. A.J. Pitman officiated.
