Shellington, age 76, of Hastings, died Monday, April 4, 2005 at Kent Community Hospital in Grand Rapids. Mr. Shellington was born on February 3, 1929 at Portland, the son of Emmett and Mary (Bouck) Shellington. He was raised in Irving Township of Barry County and attended Ryan rural school south of Freeport, graduating in 1946 from Hastings High School. He lived in Freeport on West State Road-Middleville, 16 years in Custer following his retirement and returned to the Hastings area on E. Center Rd. in 1997. He was married to Patricia L. McLaughlin on July 3, 1948. Robert worked as service manager for the Ford Dealership in Hastings for 16 years and retired in 1981 from E.W. Bliss Co. after 14 years employment. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, K of P Lodge and Loyal Order of Moose. Robert was an avid collector of Classis Cars, die cast Tonka toy cars, license plates and other collectables. Mr. Shellington is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Christine (Jack) Campbell of Middleville, Jo Ellyn Shellington of Big Rapids, Patricia (Marvin) Flikkema of Gwinn; five grandchildren, Todd Dukes, Stacy (Ben) Durian, Heather Spears, Shaun (Kendra) Sherman, Traci (Charlie) Hackney; nine great- grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Barker of Florida, Frances Shellington of Arizona, Carol (Grant) Robinson of Hastings, Ruth (Willard) Kidder of Jackson, Kate (Smith) Sherman of Florida; brother, Bill (Verna) Shellington of Hastings; brothers-in-law, Dick McLaughlin, Ed (Mary) McLaughlin, Don (June) Heath, Chet (Jerry) Lyons; special nieces, Sharon, Marilyn and Jeanne; numerous other nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Howard, in World War II; and an infant brother, Wallace. Services were held Saturday, April 9, 2005 at Wren Funeral Home, Charles “Chip” Hackney, Edward McLaughlin and Cheri Ruthruff officiated. Burial was at Irving Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Barry Community Hospice, calling cards for our military personnel or a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements were made by Wren Funeral Home of Hastings.
