At the age of 18 he enlisted with Company H. 120th Ohio Volunteers Infantry, and served all through the Civil war being thirteen months in a southern prison. December 16, 1869, he was united in marriage to Katherine Ann Isenberger. To this union were born six children, Oliver R., Della May, now Mrs. Robert Carter, Charles F., William H., Earl A., Florence J., now Mrs. Roy Wilson, all of this village. He also leaves thirteen grand-children, and three great-grandchildren to mourn their loss, one brother living in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. His four sisters have passed away.
