Mr. Shepard was born in Oneida County, New York. He and his family came to Belding about twenty-six years ago. He was a soldier in the Civil war, having enlisted in 1862 in the ninety-third New York regiment, and was obliged to leave the service on account of impaired health. A few years ago he was granted a pension. Beside his wife, who is in feeble health, he leaves three daughters—Mrs. W. H. Eckler, Maude and Bessie, and two sons—Clarence and William. Mr. Shepard was a member of Dan S. Root Post G.A.R. and affiliated with the Latter Day Saints’ church of this city. The funeral will be held Thursday from the house at two o’clock and at the M.E. church at 2:30 p.m., with burial in the old cemetery. Thus the old veterans are passing and answer the last roll call one by one.
