Some time ago Mrs. Shepard had a stroke and never fully recovered while other complications set in which caused her death. Warren Shepard, her husband, was a Civil war veteran, who died about ten years ago. Rev. Wm. Shepard, pastor of the Congregational church at Port Huron is a son of the deceased. Sarah M. Burns was born in Riley Center, Clinton county, Michigan, January 30, 1844 and passed from this life July 30, 1927. She was united in marriage to Warren Shepard in 1870, coming to Michigan where they settled in Newaygo county, moving to Belding in 1891. To this union six children were born, Mrs. Blanche Eckler, of Belding; Vita Leone, preceding her mother in death; Clarence M. Shepard, of Ohio; Mrs. Frank Southerland, of Belding; Rev. Wm. Shepard, of Port Huron, Michigan, and Miss Bessie Shepard, of Belding. Warren Shepard, who was a Civil war veteran, passed away in 1927. Besides her five children she is survived by one brother and two sisters, Mr. Seward Burns, of Six Lakes, Michigan; Mrs. Dephine Marshall, of Six Lakes and Mrs. Helen Burns, of Spring Arbor, Michigan. Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends. Mrs. Shepard was a kind a loving mother and will be greatly missed by her children and many friends. Funeral services were held at her late home Friday at 2:30 p.m., Rev. D. Aelick officiating, burial in Belding Cemetery.
