Shepard, aged 66 years, took place at his home in Thursday night at about 10 o’clock. Although Mr. Shepard had been in poor health for a number of years, he had been around and about as usual until a short time prior to his passing and his death was very unexpected. He was born near Sand Lake and came to this city as a small boy with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Warren Shepard, and had lived in this city for the greater part of his life. Surviving are the widow, Phoebe; four daughters, Mrs. Carmen Rotherwell, of Amarillo, Tex.; Mrs. Claude Dunlap and Mrs. Francis Lamar, both of Lansing, and Mrs. Elbert E. Mier of this city; a son, Sk 2/c Warren Shepard, of the navy and two sisters, Mrs. Grace Sutherland and Miss Bessie Shepard, of this city and a brother, William Shepard, of Lansing; also seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the Fitzjohn funeral home with Rev. Thomas Rice, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating, and the body was placed, on Monday, in the mausoleum in River Ridge cemetery to await burial later on in the Belding (old) cemetery. Pallbearers were William Belcher, Herbert Lyon, Elmer Cook, Charles Mier, Newell Cole and E. J. Burns.
