The son of Leslie Marshall & Mildred Irene (Hoyt) Sherd, he was born on July 25, 1937 in Sheridan and for 36 years he worked at the former Electrolux Home Products in Greenville. On January 23, 1981, in Greenville, he married the former Darlene (Holderman) Clark and together they enjoyed traveling and taking cruises, camping at Sandy Pines Resort, and wintering in Florida, until Darlene passed away on June 7, 2006. Sam also enjoyed driving fast… especially his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, snowmobiling, as well as hunting, but delighted in time spent with family and friends. His children will long remember his ability to run backward faster than any of them could run forward. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jared Christiansen; seven brothers and sisters, Harold Sherd, Robert Sherd, Marshall “Joe” Sherd, Velma Townsend, Dorothy Fields, Gerald Sherd, and Duane Sherd; and three step- children, Deborah Lyons, Denise Dilley; and Ed Clark; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Dakin; and a nephew, Chad Dakin. Surviving are his children, Cindy & Jerry Christiansen of Stanton, Jodie & Brad Hallock of Sheridan, Julie Harding of Greenville, and Mark & Kendra Sherd of Fenwick; a brother, Ron & Mary Sherd of Sheridan; a sister, Betty & Dick Harriman of Fenwick; a step-son, Ken & Shanna Clark; step-son-in-law, Patrick Dilley; siblings-in-law, Ann Harden of Brutus, Jim Dakin of Greenville, and Phyllis Holderman-VanDyke of Arizona; seven grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren with the third on the way; and many nieces, and nephews. Sam’s family extends their special thanks to his caregivers at Country Friends Assisted Living. Visitation is from 12-1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Shiloh Community Church, 8197 Heth Street, Orleans, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pastor Dale Olling, of Shiloh Community Church, will officiate and burial will take place privately at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding, at a later date.
