Ionia Standard – Friday, 28 April 1893
Sad, indeed, was the funeral, Wednesday, of Mrs. La Vern Sherd, which was held 
at the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. O. J. Golden.  Mrs. Sherd, whose death 
occurred Monday at the home of her husband in Bushnell, was a daughter of Mrs. 
Sarah Eitelbuss, whose husband was killed last May in Ionia.  Jennie, as she 
was so familiarly called, was truly a lovely girl, and made a most devoted 
wife, and by her gentle course and noble traits of character, she won for 
herself a large circle of friends who could not refrain from expressing their 
deep sorrow at their loss.  She leaves a little baby girl some four weeks 
old.  Indeed, we often wonder why such things must be.
