The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Friday, May 15, 1936

Mrs. Sophia L. Sherman, 87, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John G. 
Malone, Detroit, Friday morning at 1 o’clock.  She has been in failing health 
for several months.

Mrs. Sherman spent her girlhood days in Marshall where she married James 
Marshall Sherman, April 17, 1866.  They moved to Stanton and came to Ionia in 
1882.  She has lived in the present home at 425 East Lincoln avenue for the 
past 44 years.  She was an active member in the Methodist church.  Mr. Sherman 
died at the age of 84 after they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary 
in 1916.

Surviving her are a son, A. E. Sherman, of Battle Creek; one daughter, Mrs. 
John G. Malone, of Detroit; a grandson, Maurice Malone, of Detroit, and three 
great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the Myers funeral home Saturday afternoon, 
May 16 at 3 o’clock.  Rev. M. W. Duffey will officiate and interment will be 
at Highland Park cemetery.
