He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dell Sherman, who came from Herkimer county, N.Y., when the village was in infancy, and William Sherman was born in Muir 56 years ago. His father was a blacksmith and the son was taken as an apprentice into the blacksmith shop of his father when a lad of fifteen. He followed this trade until he became interested in the Isle of Pines and with his wife and daughter Reta and a party from Lyons went south about 20 years ago and invested in property. He improved his property by setting out bananas and grape fruit, but as his health began to fail he longed for the haunts of his childhood and had planned to dispose of his interests and return to Michigan when he was stricken with the illness which proved fatal. He visited Michigan three times during his residence in the Isle of Pines. When his daughter became of the age that she should enter high school Mrs. Sherman and Rita came back to Michigan and the latter is now one of the teachers in the Fowlerville school. They and two sisters, Mrs. Dwight Scott and Mrs. Herbert Dennis of Muir, survive him.
