Sherman, 72, of 524 N. Johnson Road, died Tuesday, July 4, at his home. He was born June 13, 1917 in Lowell Township to Grant and Flossie (Sargent) Sherman. He retired from Michigan Reformatory in 1980 after 34 ½ years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving five years, and was a member of the Saranac American Legion. He married Frances M. Johnson March 11, 1942 in Greenville, N.H. Surviving are his wife Frances; two sons, James W. Sherman of Clarksville and John L. Sherman of Lyons; one daughter, Mrs. Terry (Rose) Emmons of Saranac; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lester Sherman of Lowell. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac with the Rev. Kathryn Coombs officiating. Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Easton United Methodist Church.
