Although he had been failing for the past few months, the death of N.B. 
Sherwood, of this village, Sunday evening, June 17th, came as a surprise to our 
people.  He appeared in his usual health on Sunday, and was about to go riding 
with his son, L.D. Sherwood, who with his family arrived that day from their 
home in Kalamazoo for a visit.  He was taken with heart trouble, death 
following in a few hours.  He was aged 78 years, 9 months and 26 days.

Nathan Berton Sherwood was born at Otsego, Michigan, on August 21st, 1838.  
Some time later he went with his parents to New York state, and on May 13th, 
1858, was united in marriage to Julliette Wood at Morency, N.Y.  They resided 
for some time at Rochester, N.Y., and in 1862 they removed to Adrian, 
Michigan.  In 1864 he enlisted in company D, 4th Michigan Infantry and served 
until the close of the war.  In 1866 they came to Lyons, where he made his home 
until death came.  He is survived by a widow and two sons, W.H. Sherwood of 
Lyons and L.D. Sherwood of Kalamazoo.
