Ionia County News – Thursday, 11 April 1957
Mrs. Blance Hazzard Sherwood, 91, died Monday morning at the Ionia Rest Home, 
following several years of illness.  Born October 28, 1865 in Orange Township, 
Ionia County, she was a daughter of Giles and Catherine Smith and was married 
to Charles Hazzard in 1887.  He died in 1897 in Berlin Township and in 1920 
she was married to Frank Sherwood.  They moved to 824 West Lincoln Avenue, 
Ionia, where Mr. Sherwood died in November of 1924.

Mrs. Sherwood was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Berlin, and 
after moving to Ionia she joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in which she 
was active until her health failed.  Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Harriet 
McDonald and Mrs. Lois Sherwood of Ionia, and two sons, Benjamin Hazzard of 
Lake Odessa and Charles Hazzard of Toledo, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-
grandchildren; three step-children, Ernest Sherwood of Berlin, Mrs. Helen 
Tomlinson of Lansing and Mrs. Mary Kress of Battle Creek.

Funeral services will be conducted (today) Thursday afternoon, at 1:30 at the 
Myers Funeral Home and interment will be in Balcom Cemetery.  The Rev. Heath 
Goodwin will officiate.
