Jan. 23, 1919 Ida A., daughter of Robert Blake and Helen A. Andrews Minor was born at Berlin Center, Ionia County, Mich., Sept. 9, 1866, and departed this live, Monday, Jan. 6, 1919, being 52 year, three months and 28 days of age. When she was thirteen years of age she was converted in a prayer meeting held in her father’s home. She afterwards united with the Methodist church and continued a faithful member until her union with the church triumphant, which is before the throne of God, and the singing the songs of the redeemed. December 29, 1886, she was united in marriage to Franklin N. Sherwood. To this union were born five children: Arza H., Ernest R., Helen J., Lucille C., and Mary I. Besides the immediate family she leaves to mourn their loss her mother, Mrs. Helen A. Minor of Saranac, three brothers, Dr. E.B. Minor, and Rev. Irving W. Minor of Traverse City, and Ray R. Minor of Saranac; also five sisters; Mrs. Ella Carman of Berlin township, Mrs. Myrtle B. Walker of Grand Rapids, Miss Clara B. Minor of Saranac, Mrs. Etta L. Martenek, and Mrs. Mary J. Wheeler of Traverse City; also a host of friends who extend heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing family. Mrs. Sherwood identified herself with the interests of Christ’s kingdom, not languidly or aimlessly, but with purpose and devotion. Her sphere of activity was in the local church but more particularly in her own home, where she served with sacrificial devotion. She was a queenly wife and an ideal other and her children will rise up and call her “blessed.” She bore with Christian fortitude and sweet patience her painful illness. She so much desired to be with her family when the summons should come. God gave her renewed and clear consciousness of her earthly surroundings, at which time she took sweet comfort in communion with her family. She requested them to sing one of her favorite hymns, “Saved by Grace”. She also repeated portions of the fourteenth chapter of John’s gospel. The funeral service was held from the home Thursday afternoon, Jan. 9, 1919 and interment in the family lot in the Saranac cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. Harry E. Walker of Grand Rapids, assisted by Rev. G.T. Fisher, the local pastor, also Rev. I.W. Minor of Traverse City. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Adgate rendered very beautifully the music selections. The floral offerings in attestation of love and sympathy of the friends were profuse and beautiful. Card of Thanks We wish to thank our friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy during the sickness and death of our dear wife and mother. We also wish to thank the singers who rendered the hymns so beautifully and all those who sent floral offerings in our time of bereavement. Frank Sherwood, Mr. and Mrs. Arza Sherwood, Ernest Sherwood, The Misses Helen, Lucille and Mary Sherwood.
