Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Sept. 1994

Sgt. Robert E. Sherwood, 24 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Sherwood of 
Berlin Township, was killed in action Sept. 16, in France, according to a 
regret War Department telegram received by his parents Sunday night. 

Sgt. Sherwood entered the armed serves as a private in April 1942 and was 
attached to infantry amphibious forces. He took part in the invasion of North 
Africa and while in the invasion of Sicily was wounded and returned to North 
Africa for replacement.   He was wounded again in April 1944.
