He was born in Syracuse, New York, May 31, 1874, the son of Cyrus and Eliza Sherwood. He was the second child in a family of 10. In 1881 the family moved to Grand Rapids where they lived until 1890. They then moved to Orleans. December 17, 1899 he married Miss Ada E. Ray. Three children were born to them, Charles, who died August 19, 1911, Evelyn, who is now Mrs. William Franch of Orleans, and Josephine, who is now Mrs. Claude Schwartz of Ionia. He was a member and past master of the Belding lodge, No. 355 F. and A.M., a member and past high priest of Belding Chapter, No. 177 of the Royal Arch Masons and also a member of the Ionia commandery No. 11 of the Knight Templars. Surviving the wife; the two daughters, one grandson, Billy Franch; three brothers, Will of Reading, Pennsylvania, John of Archibold, O., and Harry of Grand Rapids; and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Clements of Belding, and Mrs. Mable Darnell of Chicago, Illinois. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Orleans church. Rev. H. S. Ellis assisted by Rev. William Blanding, both of Belding, will officiate. Services will be under the auspices of the Masonic lodge. Interment will be at Orleans cemetery.
