The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, date unknown
Ernest N. Shields, 70, of Ionia passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003 in Grand 
Rapids.  He was born June 11, 1932 in Ionia the son of Ernest and Ethel 
(Hendrick) Shields.

He attended Badder Country School.  He went on to marry Shirley Shattuck 
August 31, 1956 in Ionia.  Ernest was an Army veteran of the Korean war.  He 
owned and operated Ernie’s Appliance in Ionia for many years.  He was also 
employed by Western Auto.  He was a member of Ionia V.F.W.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Shirley Shields of Ionia; sons, 
Eric Shields of Ionia, Sean Shields of Ionia, Alan Shields of Ionia; daughter 
Tracy Gomez of Lyons; brother Doug and Jan Shields of Ionia; six grandchildren 
and six great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one son David in 
1989 and one grandson Eric in 1984.

There will be a memorial luncheon prepared in honor of Ernest Shields at 1 
p.m. Thursday at the Ionia V.F.W. hall.  Anyone wishing may make a memorial 
contribution to Spectrum Hospital Blodgett Campus Heart Unit.  Arrangements 
were made by Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.
