Shimp, 78, of spring Lake, passed away Jan. 4, 2005. She was born in Portland, Jan. 26, 1926 to Peter and Helen (Fernholz) Gensterblum and married Neil Shimp on Aug. 24, 1949. Before returning to Michigan in 1989 she resided in Urbana, IL for 31 years. Mrs. Shimp was a homemaker, a member of St. Patrick’s Church of Grand Haven, the Tri Cities Historical Museum, and a former member of the Muskegon County Rock and Mineral Club. She also enjoyed gardening and boating and she made friends with everyone she met. Mrs. Shimp was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers. Surviving are her husband, Neil; son, Dale (Nancy) Shimp of California; daughter, Audrey Shimp of Chicago, IL; seven sisters, Elizabeth Huhn and Geraldine Hodge, both of Portland, Sister Bernita Marie Gensterblum S.S.J. of Nazareth, MI, Mary Louise (William) Hanses of Westphalia, Eleanor (Forest) Peake of Portland, Dolores (Allen) Houser of St. Johns, Barbara (Leon) Densmore of Portland; three brothers, Marvin (Lois) Gensterblum of Portland, Robert (Mary) Gensterblum of Lansing, and James (Louise) Gensterblum of Portland. The Funeral Mass was held Jan. 7 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. Anthony Vainavicz officiating. Interment at Lakeshore Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Clock Funeral Home in Grand Haven.
