For a number of years the deceased had been troubled with kidney disease which baffled the skill of physicians in yielding to treatment. He had kept up however and was able to be out around until within a week of his death, when he took to his bed and told his family he thought he would not be able to leave it again in life. He was 58 years old, was born in Ohio and had lived on the old homestead since he was three years old, his father, Peter Shindorf, having settled there in an early day. He married Josephine Blassen, who with one daughter, Rose, now Mrs. Fred Scheidt, survives him. Mr. Shindorf was an excellent citizen and good neighbor. The funeral service was held in the church at Miriam Monday morning at 10 o’clock, Rev. Fr. Zindler officiating on the sad occasion when a large concourse of old neighbors and friends assembled to pay their last respects. There were many and beautiful floral offerings from relatives and friends. The brothers and sisters who survive him and Henry and George Shindorf, of this place, and Jacob Shindorf of St. Johns, Mrs. Chas. Alberts, Chesaning, Mrs. Chas. Hoffman, of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Henry Krupp, of Miriam, all of whom were present at the funeral. Others from abroad were Joseph Blassen, Beal City; Henry Kortlander and daughter, of Grand Rapids, Peter and Chas. Scheidt and Anthony Friedman and wife, of Saranac; Mrs. Julius Henkle and daughter; Matt Schenden and wife and John Schenden and wife, of Greenville, and H. S. Schreiner and wife, of Lowell.
