Mary Maxine (Banhagel) Shindorf, 88, of Belding, passed away on March 11, 
2008, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Mary was born to Fern (Chadwick) and Ben Banhagel in Ionia, Mich. on May 20, 
1919. She graduated from Saint Peter and Paul's Academy in Ionia and after 
graduation worked in Ann Arbor, Mich. until her marriage to Joseph A. 
Shindorf, of Belding on Oct. 19, 1946. She was a charter member of the Forest 
Grove and Freedom Acres School, a lifelong member of Saint Joseph's Church and 
also a PTA member of Saint Joseph's School. She was hostess of the Ave Maria 
Guild, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, and a member 
of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Michigan Submarine Veterans.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Agnes Paris, Ruth 
Whitham, Doris Fisher-Schuler and Dorothy Onweller.

Mary is survived by her husband Joseph and their seven children, Albert (Ann) 
Shindorf, Mary (Bob) Rasmussen, Jo Ann (Phil) Bryant, Charles (Betty Jo) 
Shindorf, Melinda (Keith) Krick, Tim (Cindy) Shindorf and Jerome Shindorf, 12 
grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic 
Church, Belding with Father Fred Brucker presiding. Interment will follow in 
St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 5 to 7 p.m., with a rosary 
prayed at 6:30 at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Visitation will 
also be one hour before Mass at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial 
contributions may be made to Ionia Area Hospice or to the Area 6 Special 
Olympics.
