Mrs. Earl (Marion) Shindorf apparently died at about 1 p.m., county coroner Dale Kauffman said. Her body was found by her husband at about 9:30 a.m. Her husband, who had slept in a camper unit beside the house during the night, discovered the victim’s charred body when he entered the house in the morning. The fatal fire destroyed the bed in which Mrs. Shindorf had been sleeping, and burned itself out without igniting the building. The house was filled with a heavy char and soot, and there were indications that the bed fire had generated extreme heat. Candles in an adjoining room were completely melted. Mrs. Shindorf’s body, severely burned, was found on the floor beside the charred bed. Also found on the floor beside the bed were a package of cigarettes and some matches. The fire and death were investigated by coroner Kauffman, sheriff Gary Newton and the city fire department. Kauffman ruled the death was accidental as the result of asphyxiation. Mrs. Shindorf was a 30-years resident of the Belding community. She was born in Ohio, March 1, 1914. She is survived by her husband; one son, Ronnie Shindorf of Comstock Park; twin sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Annabelle) Brown of Belding and Mrs. Harley (Isabelle) Rawson of San Jose, California; her mother, Pearl Lezott Reidelbaugh; and six grandchildren. Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Monday evening at Huffman Funeral Home. Requiem Mass was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. Father Charles Steves officiating. Burial was in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard, Arnold, Paul, Hubert, Bernard and Henry Shindorf.
