Death came as a welcome relief to Mrs. Lillian Shindorf, aged 73 years who has for the past two years and more made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Charles Breimayer, south of this city. Mrs. Shindorf was the widow of the late George Shindorf, who passed away about four years ago and with her husband was one of the pioneer settlers in the Miriam community. For many years they resided on the old farm on M-66 and were among the well known and highly esteemed people of the country, numbering their friends only by the number of people with whom they became acquainted, for to know either Mr. and Mrs. Shindorf was to like them and list them among your friends. Mrs. Shindorf was the mother of a large family, but this did not confine her efforts to her home alone and she was to be found where ever help was needed and her ministrations and kindly visits in the old days – days before the telephone, automobiles and other modern conveniences – when the helping hand of a neighbor meant much, are such that her memory will linger long with those who knew her during the days when she was able to take her part in life. Up until the time of the death of her husband she lived on the old farm and afterward went to live with her only surviving daughter, Mrs. Charles Breimayer, and there during the more than two years she has been with her daughter, she has been kindly looked after and well cared for. For many years she has been an invalid, confined to a wheel chair and in need of almost constant attention but she was the type of mother which made it a pleasant duty for a daughter to care for and she has had the best of attention and care during the time she lived with her daughter. Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Charles Breimayer and eight sons, as follows: Frank, Leopold, Ben, Leo, Fred, Peter, Edward and Louis, all living in or near the Miriam community. Funeral services were held on Monday morning from St. Mary Catholic church, with Rev. Fr. Lawrence L. Dorr officiating and burial was in the cemetery there. A large concourse of people attended the services as a tribute of their honor and respect in the timely passing of an old friend.
