Robert H. Shindorf, 21, of 6118 Hawley Highway, died Saturday night in Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids. Shindorf and Ross Gregory, 20, of 108 May Street, had been taken to United Memorial Hospital in Greenville after the accident. Shindorf was transferred almost immediately to Blodgett. Gregory was treated at United, and was released from the hospital Monday. Shindorf’s car was traveling west on M-44. The vehicle went out of control on the west end of the curve near Canfield Road. The car went off the road surface on the north side of the highway, then crossed the roadway and smashed into a tree in the south ditch. The car broke in half, and the front end remained near the first tree. The remainder of the car with parts dropping off along the way, traveled about 30 feet farther and smashed broadside into a second tree. Shindorf and Gregory were both thrown from the vehicle. Funeral services for Shindorf were held Wednesday morning at St. Joseph’s Church in Belding with the Rev. Charles E. Steves officiating. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert P. Shindorf of 6118 Hawley Highway; and three brothers, Gerald and Phillip (Bill) both of route one, Belding, and George (Tony) of Ionia. ---- Funeral services were held Wednesday morning for Robert Henry Shindorf, 21, of 6118 Hawley Highway, Belding, who died Saturday evening at Blodgett Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids from injuries he received in a car accident early Saturday morning. Mr. Shindorf was born July 21, 1946, and had been a life-time Belding area resident. He was employed by Ore-Ida. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Belding. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert P. Shindorf of Belding; three brothers, Gerald and Phillip (Bill), both of Belding, and George (Tony) of Ionia; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Douglas of Lake; and two nieces and two nephews. The rosary was recited Tuesday at 9 p.m. at Huffman Funeral Home. The funeral services were from St. Joseph Church in Belding. Father Charles E. Steves officiated. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Belding.
