Raymond Shindorf, the 13-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Shindorf, former residents of this city, who are now living a short distance west and south of the village of Grattan, was fatally injured when he was struck, while riding his bicycle just west of Grattan Friday evening, by a light truck, driven by Mrs. Laurette VanRaalte of Holland, whose husband, John, was riding with her in the truck at the time of the accident. The boy had been into the village to have the tires on his bicycle properly inflated and was returning home when the truck struck him. State police who investigated stated that the boy was riding west and on the south side of state highway M-44 and that the truck was coming toward the east and on the same side of the road. They reported that the truck was stopped within a few yards of where the boy on the bicycle was struck and that apparently the truck was being driven at a moderate speed. Following the accident the youth was rushed to St. Mary’s hospital at Grand Rapids where he passed away at 3:35 Saturday morning from the injuries received in the accident. The body was brought to this city by Bruce G. Fales, who was in charge of funeral arrangements. Surviving are the parents, eight sisters: Eleanor of Detroit, Mrs. Lester Bradley of this city, Noema of Battle Creek and Patricia, Helen, Ellen, Charlotte and Ethel Mae, at home, and two brothers LaVerne and James, also at home. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Catholic church in this city Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock with Rev. Fr. Ralph J. Kelly officiating and burial was in the Catholic cemetery here.
