Joe was born on September 10, 1921 in Belding, the son of Peter M. and Rose (Kessler) Shindorf. He graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1939 and proudly served his country during World War II on a US Navy submarine. He retired in 1984 from Extruded Metals after 29 years of service. He also worked for Independent Bank as a courier. Joe was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding, a past member of the Holy Name Society and a life member of the Sheridan VFW Post 5065. He enjoyed being around people, had a good sense of humor and a colorful attitude towards his ties, suit jackets and hats. He was married on October 19, 1946 in Ionia to Maxine Banhagel and she preceded him in 2008. Joe was also preceded by his parents, step mother Blanche Scheid, one sister Mary Louise, one brother George and his son, Jerome. Joe is loved and survived by his children; Albert and Ann Shindorf of Charlevoix, Mary Lou and Robert Rasmussen of Grand Rapids, JoAnn and Phillip Bryant of Sault Saint Marie, Charles and Betty Jo Shindorf of Houghton Lake, Melinda and Keith Krick of Buckhanon, WV, Timothy and Cindy Shindorf of Spring Lake, 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding with Father Darrel Kempf presiding. Visitation will be Friday at the church two hours before mass. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Belding. Memorials may be given to St. Joseph Church or Special Olympics. Envelopes will be available at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, where funeral care has been entrusted.
