Excerpts from Ionia Online Obituary
Roger Eugene Shively
Died Monday July 26, 2021-age 89 at home in  Hubbardston.
Born April 18, 1932, in Lansing, MI son of Ronald and Martha (Rogers) Shively.
Graduated in class of 1949 of Saint John the Baptist Catholic School, in 
Hubbardston, but attended Resurrection School in Lansing for one year.
Married Patricia Anne Husted of Middleton, MI on October 20, 1962.
Life-long member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Roger & sister Joan, were raised by their Aunt Katie and Uncle Jack Burke on 
their farm on Brayton Road.
He grew up working on the farm, After graduation he worked various jobs, 
including a janitor at the American Red Cross in Lansing, & some jobs in 
Automobile factories in Lansing.
Eventually learned the carpentry trade with Jimmy Herald.
For about 30 years Roger worked  as a self-employed carpenter in and around 
Hubbardston.
In 1986, Roger went to work at the Michigan Reformatory, in Ionia, in the 
electrical maintenance department.
He retired from The State of Michigan in January 1999 at age 66.
The next decade he spent time accomplishing many home improvement projects.
Roger kept busy, he enjoyed going to Carson City to McDonald's & then taking a 
walk in Haradine Park, many mornings.
He spent a lot of time outdoors, enjoying moving his lawn, gardening, and deer 
hunting. Was also a fan of big band music & television Westerns & time with 
family & friends.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Katrina (Brett) Moe & son John Shively both 
of Hubbardston, & son Jim (Angie) Shively of Perry.
Also by three grandchildren, Danielle, Brendan & Katherine, & great-grandchild, 
Lylah.
Survived also by his sister, Joan (Buddy) McKenna, of Okemos, sister-in-law, 
Penny Husted of Newaygo, and brother-in-law, David Husted of Greenville.
Preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Patty Ann, his parents Martha & John 
McGrath, of Carson City, Ronald Shively of Lansing, his Aunt & Uncle, Catherine 
& John Burke of rural Hubbardston & an older infant brother, Carroll Shively.
Arrangements entrusted to Lehman Funeral Home, Ionia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 11 AM at 
Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hubbardston, with Father Larry King 
officiating.
Visitation at the church from 10Am to 11 Am.
Graveside service and luncheon will follow the Funeral Mass.
Special thanks to Hospice services of Elara Caring which provided excellent 
nursing services to Roger during his last weeks of life.
Memorial Contributions may be made in Roger's name to the organization or 
Charity of your choice.
