Irene Shockey, age 94, of Sheridan, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2003 at 
Heartland Health Care Center in Ionia.  Irene was born September 21, 1908 in 
Weidman to Joseph and Catherine (Gross) Gachter.

She married Charles B. Shockey October 8, 1936 at LaGrange, Indiana.  He 
predeceased her in 1964.  Irene was a lifelong resident of the Sheridan area.  
She retired from Wolverine World Wide in 1973 and she and her late husband 
farmed together for many years.  In addition, she enjoyed gardening and quilt 
making.

Surviving are one daughter; Glenda (Gale) Wing of Palo; two sons, Charles W. 
Shockey of Sheridan and John (Martha) Shockey of Ionia; six grandchildren; 
Eric, John and Charles Shockey, Nyle and John Wing and Annette Ferris; four 
great-grandchildren; Cheryln, Dana and Elizabeth, and Christopher Shockey; two 
sisters, Virginia (Ace) Averill of Prudenville and Mae (Tom) Denton of Clare; 
and a special nephew, LeRoy Boge of Wiedman.

Irene was also preceded in death by one brother Augusta Gachter; four sisters, 
Vera Bierschbach, Julie Boge, Catherine Newell and Naomi Graham; and two half-
brothers, Charlie Gachter and Amos Gachter.

In accordance with the wishes of the family there will be no visitation held.  
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stebbins & Simpson Funeral 
Home in Sheridan with the Rev. Kenneth Harger of Shiloh community church.  
Interment at the Evergreen Cemetery in Sheridan.
