Shoemaker, 97, of Lake Odessa died Saturday, April 27, 1996 at her residence. She was born Jan. 18, 1899 in Greenville, Penn., the daughter of John and Nellie (Hooper) Rose. She attended Grandville Schools and married Leslie Shoemaker in 1917 in Grandville. They moved to Ionia County in 1936 and Lake Odessa in 1945. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Lake Odessa, the Lakeside Grange and Blue Star Mothers. She is survived by her children: Norma (Thomas) O’Mara, of Ionia, Arnold (Elaine) Shoemaker, of Lake City, Donald (Mary) Shoemaker, of Lake Odessa, Dale (Eileen) Shoemaker, of Sparta, Lorraine (Wendell) Scheidt, of Ionia, Barbara (Merle) Ockerman, of Rockford and Marlene (Robert) McKinney, of Lake; 30 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; sister- in-law Laura Rose, of Oklahoma City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband July 21, 1979, daughter Madellon and two brothers, Charles and Alonzo Rose. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa with Rev. Emmett Kadwell officiating. Burial will be in Grandville Cemetery and visitation will be today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands or Central United Methodist Church.
