July 26, 1979 LESLIE A SHOEMAKER LAKE ODESSA - Leslie A. Shoemaker, 87, of 903 Third Ave., Lake Odessa, died Saturday at the Michigan Veterans Facility in Grand Rapids, where he had been a patient for two-and-a-half years. He was born April 17, 1892 in Wyoming Township in Kent county, the son of Rudolph and Henrietta (Solman) Shoemaker. He attended Wyoming and Grandville schools. He married Frances Rose on July 5, 1917 in Grand Rapids. The couple lived in the Grandville area until 1936 when they moved to a farm in Ionia County. Mr. Shoemaker was employed by Smith Bros. Elevator in Lake Odessa from 1949 to 1952. He worked at the C.H. Runceman Co. of Clarksville, from 1952 to 1955. He sold DeKalb Seed Corn for 20 years in Ionia and Barry counties. He was a veteran of world War I. He a a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Lake Odessa, the American Legion, Lakeside Grange, Pinhook Farm Bureau and Senior Citizens. Survivors include his wife, Francis, three sons Arnold of Jenison, Donald of Lake Odessa, Dale of Sparta, four daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Norma) O'Mara of Ionia, Mrs. Wendell (Loraine) Scheidt of Lake Odessa, Mrs. Bill (Barbara) Clark of Caledonia, Mrs.Robert (Marlene) McKinney of Williamston, 30 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Nellie Shoemaker of Hudsonville. Funeral services were held Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Pickens-Koops Funeral home in Lake Odessa, with the Rev. William Hertel, officiating. Burial will be in Grandville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church memorial fund of Lake Odessa.
