Shook were slowly lowered into their final resting place. The funeral sermon was delivered at the former home of deceased in Orange township, at 10:00 o’clock Monday morning by Rev. John H. Stewart, of the Baptist church. Mr. Shook passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Mary Manchester, in Lockport, N.Y., Christmas eve, death having been caused by neuralgia of the heart. His illness was very brief. The remains reached Portland Saturday noon and were taken to the home of his son, W. D. Shook, in Orange, to await the funeral services. Mr. Shook was born in Cambria, Niagara county, N.Y., December 28, 1843, and would have attained the age of 70 years had he lived until last Sunday. He married Mary Ann Frantz in Lockport, N.Y., on August 2, 1868, and the couple resided in Niagara county until Oct. 2, 1882, when they moved to Orange township. Until the spring of 1907 they resided on a 160 acre farm five miles west of Portland, when they moved to the village. Mrs. Shook died Oct. 7, 1908, and two years later the bereaved husband moved back to the old homestead, where he resided with his daughter, Bernice, until March, 1912. He then sold the farm to his eldest son, Dewey, and has visited his relatives in various parts of the country since, enjoying a well earned vacation in this manner. His death occurred while he was visiting his sister, Mrs. Manchester, in Lockport. Deceased is survived by five children: Dewey, Elmer and John Shook of Orange; Mrs. Anna Holcomb, Saranac; Mrs. Bernice Stedman, Lansing. His four sisters are Mrs. Henry Smith, of Washington state; Mrs. Keyes, of ??, Mich.; Mrs. Carolina Good, Kalamazoo; Mrs. Mary Manchester, Lockport, N.Y.. Eleven grandchildren and one great grandson also survive.
