She was born Mona Hope Downing in Alma on April 11, 1923, the ninth child of Charles and Emma Mae Miller Downing. Hope worked at Ionia Manufacturing during WWII, then later Trojan Athletic Mills. After marrying Robert J. Shore in 1960, she operated her own beauty parlor until retirement. In 1982 Hope and Bob Shore moved to Florida. Hope was a crafter. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and quilting. When not fashioning afghans, comforters and clothing for the family, she made lap robes for veterans. Every family marriage and birth was an opportunity for her to express her love with her hands. Hope’s greatest pleasure came from family. In her roles as Grandma Shore, Aunt Hope, sis, mom and wife, she is remembered for her zest for life, her compassion and her refusal to bow to adversity. A child of The Great Depression, Hope contributed regularly to charities that helped the poor and the hungry. Her favorite organization was Samaritan’s Purse. The family has requested that flowers not be sent. Persons wishing to make an expression of sympathy may make a donation in her name to a charity serving the poor. She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Shore and her son, Roland Crane (Pat) of Midland. Hope was a grandmother of four, Angela Bruder (David) of Novi, Michael Crane (Tara) of Greenville, North Carolina, Jennifer Harms (Nathan) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Her first grandson, Jeffrey Crane, died in 2002. Hope had five great-grandchildren.
