Ionia County News - Thursday, July 22, 1948

Robert Ernest Showerman, son of Ernest and Jessie Morehouse-Showerman, was born 
October 3, 1913, at Jackson, Michigan, and passed away at his home near 
Sunfield, July 11, at the age of 34 years, nine months and eight days.

When just a few months of age, he came with his parents to the old homestead in 
Sebewa township. He attended the grades at the Sebewa high school and took his 
high school work at Sunfield, graduating with the class of 1932. He spent his 
life farming, except for a few  years in factory work. 

On June 6, 1936, he was married to Clarice (????). To this union were born four 
children.

He was a faithful member of the Sebewa Corners Methodist church. He was saved 
several years ago and lived a victorious christian life until the time of his 
death. All his life including the last year of his severe illness, he testified 
to (????? many friends of the saving and keeping power of his Lord. 

He leaves to mourn, his wife, four children Louise (age), Ralph 8, Joyce 7 and 
John 5 1/2 years. Also a brother, Edward Showerman of Sunfield, and a sister 
Miss Betty J. Sanford of Jackson. His father, mother, brother Eugene and sister, 
Emily preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, at the Sebewa Corners Methodist 
church. Rev. John Bullock of Refus, a former pastor of the deceased officiated. 
Rev. Merle Benson of Woodland assisted. Interment was in the Danby cemetery and 
Pall bearers were Clyde Thomas, Volney Thuma, Dennis Petrie, Robert Burns, 
Walter Brown and Wayne Brown. 

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schwab of 
Cecil, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis R. Oaks of Hicksville, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest 
Donley of Wawaka, Indiana; Mr. Arthur Morehouse, Mrs. Maude Sanford and Miss 
Betty Sanford of Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Jerold E. Oaks from Birmingham. Others 
also from Flint, Rockford, Grand Rapids, Lowell, Lansing and Ann Arbor attended 
to pay their last respects to this dear one who has passed on.
