Wave, Thurs. Oct. 5, 1961 Myrtle Showerman Died Last Tuesday Miss Myrtle Showerman, 83, RN of Grand Rapids, passed away Tuesday morning at Blodgett Memorial hospital, after a short illness. She had been a resident of Grand Rapids for 25 years or more and had a long active life both in private and institutional nursing. She arrived as an army nurse during World War I and was stationed at Plattsburg N.Y. During an epidemic of black smallpox at the Lapeer Epileptic Home around 1910 she volunteered as a nurse there. Miss Showerman was a member of the First Methodist church in Grand Rapids and the Carl D. Johnson Post no. 2, of the American Legion. Surviving are three sisters Mrs. Ellen Collier of Sunfield, Mrs. Ruth Robinson of Hastings, and Mrs. Edna Burkle of Woodland, nieces and nephews. Miss Showerman reposes at the Mapes funeral home at Sunfield where funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. with burial in the family lot in the Sebewa cemetery.
