Wave-Times, Thurs. Nov. 20, 1930 LIVED IN L. ODESSA QUARTER OF CENTURY Loyal Friend and Neighbor, True Christian Mother, Funeral Largely Attended Tuesday afternoon a large number of friends gathered to pay their last respects to the memory of a splendid mother, a loyal Christian and a faithful friend. For over a quarter of a century Mrs. Helen Showerman has been identified with the village of Lake Odessa and the Methodist church. Mrs. Showerman was devoted to her children. She was a Bible student and when a question of Biblical history arose she knew what the Bible and ancient writers said about it, being able to give her authority. She was ever ready with a testimony of her religious faith and was always found at divine worship if health permitted. Mrs. Showerman leaves many friends besides her family who will miss her as the days go by especially her neighbors. The funeral was held at Central Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. O.F. Rulman, her pastor, gave the obituary and a splendid tribute to the life of the deceased and Rev. B.E. Showerman, a former pastor, gave the message of comfort to the family. William Chipchase and Mrs. Vern McCartney sang, "Some Day the Silver cord will break: and "Jesus Lover of My Soul" accompanied by Mrs. Thomas Johnson. Burial was at Lakeside cemetery. *OBITUARY* Helen W. Merrifield was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., June 19, 1858 and passed away November 15, 1930 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Burkle in Woodland, at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 26 days. On March 5, 1886, she was united in marriage to Orlando V. Showerman, taking up their home on a farm in Sebewa township where they continued to life until February 1904, when the family moved to Lake Odessa, the home being broken in December 1919, by the passing of the husband and father. Mrs. Showerman became identified with the church in very early life both at Sebewa and later at Lake Odessa, and the church and hit's interests were her chief joy. She was a devoted mother, an earnest and sincere Christian and a woman of sterling worth and character. She leaves to mourn her departure one son, Ernest of Sebewa, and four daughters, Mrs. Ellen Collier of Sunfield, Miss Myrtle Showerman of Lake Odessa, Mrs. Edna Burkle of Woodland and Mrs. Ruth Garlinger of Sunfield, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and beside the immediate family, an aged brother George Merrifield of Mulliken and a more distant circle of relatives and friends. *Card of Thanks* We wish to express our most sincere appreciation for the many kindnesses shown us during our mother's illness and death, and especially to the M.E. Aid society for the beautiful bouquet, and the W.M.S. of the Evangelical church for the lovely plant which she enjoyed, also to the neighbors who so thoughtfully looked after her needs during the first days of her illness. We gratefully acknowledge all expressions of sympathy, by word or flowers, from the church, the Woman's Bible class, the organist Mrs. Johnson for the very fitting music, and to Mrs. Vera McCartney and William Chipchase for the comforting message in song. To the Rev. O.F. Rulman and Rev. R. Showerman for their words of appreciation of our mother and to those who bore her in her last resting place.
