Ionia Standard, 26 Aug 1875

Mr. Jacob Showerman, an old pioneer of Sebewa, died at his residence Friday 
morning August 13th.  Mr. Showerman was born in western New York in 1804.  he 
bought his land in Sebewa in 1836 and moved upon it with his family in 
September 1839.  His nearest neighbors, except his sister’s family which moved 
in at the same time, were two miles away and he was obliged to cut his own road 
that distance.  He lived to see the development of the township from the first 
and by his industry and economy had saved a good property.  His oldest son, Mr. 
L. E. Showerman, has represented the township on the board of Supervisors for 
several years.
