March 25, 1915 WAS FOR MANY YEARS ENGAGED IN MILLINERY BUSINESS HERE IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS News of the death of Mrs. L.K. Showmen at San Francisco, Cal., has been received by Portland friends, and that the announcement caused a profound degree of sorrow here, particularly among the older residents by whom the deceased was so well known, goes without saying. The end came peacefully on the morning of the 18th inst., following a few days of failing strength, and interment took place in the beautiful Cypress Lawn cemetery, at San Francisco. Mrs. Showman possessed a strong and Christian-like character and if ever a woman was entitled to eternal reward it was she. She came to Portland in the early 60’s and until her removal from this place twenty or more years later was a devoted worker in the Methodist Church and the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. She leaves many warm friends among the rank and file o both societies. Immediately after the war Mrs. Showman established a millinery store on the present site of L.L. Smith’s residence, later moved to the building now occupied by Peake & Young and later to the building at present utilized by B.J. Beebe & Son as a grocery store. It was here that she retired from business in the early 80’s. Her late husband followed the photographing business while the family were residents of Portland. Mrs. Showman was 80 years of age at the time of her death, and for the past several years had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. W.M. Elder, in San Francisco. Besides Mrs. Elder another daughter, Mrs. D.J. Stanton, also of San Francisco, survives. For the past two years the two families have enjoyed the great comfort of living within a few blocks apart. Both of the daughters are well known here and many steadfast friends in the old town extend deep sympathies to them in their bereavement.
