Lake Odessa Scrapbook  -  February 2, 1890

    HENRY SHRINER

Who died Friday afternoon, Jan. 31st, 1890, aged 42 years and 9 days, of la 
grippe.

Mr.Shriner was born in Lancaster Co., Penn., January 22nd, 1848. His parents 
moved to Indiana when he was about five years old whee he resided until he moved 
to Michigan about ten years ago. When the rebellion broke out he enlisted in the 
21st Indiana volunteer and served his country for about one year when he 
received his discharge on account of ill health.He was married when he was 
twenty-two years of age.Previous to moving to this place he lived in Casleton 
township, about two miles from Sunfield. He moved to this village when the town 
ws first started a little over two years ago, and purchased a lot and erected a 
house which he had been working hard to pay for. His health physically was very 
poor by decease brought on from exposure and hardships in the army.He never 
received a pension but active steps had been taken and everything nearly 
perfected to secure it for him, and doubtless his widow will receive it in  a 
short time.

Mr.Shriner was a staunch member of the Methodist Church of this place and died 
in perfect happiness and faith in the future.He leaves a widow and one child. 
The funeral services were held at the church Sunday, Rev. J.H. Sedwick 
officiating. The ceremonies were under the auspices of the G.A.R..Post, over 
forty members being in attendance whose services at the cemetery were very 
impressive. Haight Weed & Co. were the funeral directors.
