The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, November 27, 1934

Ann Arbor, Mich., Nov. 27.—Miss Gertrude Shuler, 23, nurse in University 
hospital, died this morning the fourth fatality from an automobile accident 
last Friday morning on the Portage lake road.  Her home was at Lake Odessa.

Miss Violet Swanson, also a nurse, and Dr. George R. King and Dr. Robert B. 
Meyer, interns, were killed instantly in the accident.  Two other nurses and 
another young physician were injured, but were recovering.
